Why we chose
BINDER.
Reon Living represents BINDER exclusively in Cyprus. We made that choice after looking at every counter-current system on the market and concluding that only one manufacturer builds what we are willing to put our name on.
A turbine is not a pump
Conventional counter-current systems use a high-pressure pump pushing water through a narrow nozzle. You end up swimming against a concentrated, turbulent jet — fast, loud, and nothing like open water. BINDER took the opposite route. A wide axial turbine rotates slowly and moves a huge column of water smoothly and evenly. You swim inside a current instead of against a stream.
That difference sounds subtle in writing. It is unmistakable in the water. It changes how long you can swim, how natural your stroke feels, and how much electricity the pool uses. The full engineering sits on the Technology page. This page is about why we trust the company that builds it.
Engineering excellence from Hameln
BINDER GmbH is a German manufacturer based in Hameln, Lower Saxony, specialising exclusively in turbine-driven counter-current swimming systems. Founded in 2003, BINDER introduced the HydroStar line in 2012 and has refined it continuously since.
Unlike pump-jet systems that create turbulent, narrow currents, BINDER's patented turbine technology generates a broad, smooth, river-like flow that supports real swimming technique. The difference is apparent on the first stroke and impossible to forget.
Every system is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany. No outsourcing, no licensing. Delivered in Cyprus with local service through Reon Living.
Six things BINDER gets right
Made in Hameln, Germany
Every BINDER system is engineered, tested, and assembled at BINDER's own facility in Hameln, Lower Saxony. Not outsourced. Not licensed. Not a rebranded OEM.
Patented turbine technology
BINDER holds the patents on the turbine-driven counter-current system. It is the only technology on the market that produces a true river-like column of flow.
ISO 9001:2015, certified by TÜV NORD
BINDER's quality management system is audited and certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH. The auditors specifically highlighted BINDER's assembly-line work instructions as exemplary.
Up to 80 % less electricity
Up to 80% less electricity than a conventional pump-jet system. The efficiency is physical, not marketing.
≈ 3-hour professional install
A HydroStar install on a prepared pool takes roughly three hours. No dedicated plant room needed — the control cabinet mounts in any dry utility space within 10 m of the pool.
Maintenance-free by design
Brushless DC motor with no dynamic shaft seal. Water-lubricated sliding bearings. V4A stainless steel and high-grade plastics throughout. 3-year warranty.
Recognised by the people who know
The juries of numerous renowned industry awards have recognised BINDER's innovative technology. BINDER has received the Plus X Award, the German Brand Award, and the Golden Wave Award. The German Design Award was given specifically for the EasyStar housing. BINDER has not rested on these — they keep improving, year after year, product after product.
Independent validation of BINDER's commitment to both engineering and design.
Turbine vs conventional pump-jet

Up to 80 % less electricity
HydroStar PRO draws 1.5 kW. A conventional pump-jet draws 15 kW. Over 100 operating days at €0.40 / kWh: €600 versus €6,000. Same flow, one tenth the running cost.
- Lower monthly electricity bills
- No high-voltage installation cost
- Reduced environmental footprint
The swimming experience
Numbers matter, but the feeling matters more. The turbine creates a wide, even current that supports proper swimming technique — freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke. You can swim for half an hour without turning.
Pump-jet systems produce a narrow, turbulent stream that splashes, requires constant steering, and feels nothing like swimming in open water. The difference is transformational, not incremental.
Why BINDER — your questions answered
Short, honest answers to the questions buyers ask before choosing BINDER.
Why BINDER over a pump-jet system?+
Pump-jet systems generate a narrow, high-velocity stream from a small nozzle. BINDER turbine systems use large impellers to produce a wide, river-like current that matches natural swim stroke width — most swimmers describe it as closer to open-water swimming than a jet.
Is BINDER really worth the price premium?+
For buyers who actually swim laps, yes — the wider current and smoother flow profile reduce side-to-side pull and match real training conditions. If you only want the occasional splash, a pump-jet unit may be sufficient.
Where is BINDER made?+
BINDER is a German manufacturer. Systems are engineered and built in Germany and distributed internationally through authorised dealers like Reon Living in Cyprus.
How energy-efficient is a BINDER counter-current system?+
BLDC turbine motors run at variable speed and are sized to the current you actually use. Real-world energy use depends on duty cycle — the system only draws full power when you swim. The models range from 1.35 kW to 6.8 kW.
Can I retrofit a BINDER system into an existing pool in Cyprus?+
Yes — EasyStar is built for retrofit. It hooks to the pool edge on a bracket and needs a standard 230 V supply, so there is no wall cut or structural change. See the retrofit guide for the full fit criteria.
One standard. Three form factors.
BINDER makes three counter-current lines. The turbine inside is the same engineering; the difference is how it fits your pool.
HydroStar
The built-in flagship, integrated into the pool wall during construction for a seamless finish. Minimum pool length 4.5 m. The full BGA range from 160 to 1200.
HydroStarRetrofitEasyStar
Bracket-mounted retrofit for existing pools. Same turbine, same performance — no excavation. Minimum pool length 5.0 m. German Design Award winner for the housing.
EasyStarCompact & DIYLittleStarlet

Reon Living is BINDER's exclusive authorised partner in Cyprus. That matters because full factory warranty coverage, genuine BINDER spare parts, and Hameln-trained technicians on the island only come through one door.
Buy a BINDER through anyone else in Cyprus and you are buying a grey-market unit with no local support. Buy through Reon Living and when something needs attention, we are here — in your time zone, in your language, on your pool deck.
Authorised partnership
Reon Living is the only Cyprus-based company with direct authorisation from BINDER GmbH. That matters for warranty coverage, technical support, and the assurance that your system is installed to manufacturer standards.
